A few thoughts on design in the new year...

My philosophy is always to choose things you love, that tell your story, and that

honor the architecture of your space to create a timeless home that you will love forever....

but there are always lots of fun new trends emerging in home design space! That being said, I've

pulled together my top 5 favorites for 2025 to share with you below!

Texture and Materiality

Texture and materiality are essential elements in creating a space that feels rich, inviting, and dynamic.

Layering a mix of natural materials like wood, stone, and linen with contrasting textures—smooth, rough,

soft, and tactile—adds depth and visual interest. In modern organic interiors, these elements bring warmth

and character, making a space feel both curated and lived-in. Whether it's the grain of reclaimed wood, the

plushness of a wool rug, or the raw beauty of handmade ceramics, thoughtful material choices transform

interiors into sensory experiences that are as functional as they are beautiful.

Lived-In Luxe

There is a growing appreciation for patina finishes and the beauty of lived-in items. This trend celebrates the

character and stories embedded in surfaces that show signs of wear, from weathered wood to aged metals and

vintage textiles. These elements add a sense of authenticity and warmth to spaces, creating an inviting atmosphere

that feels personal and curated. This trend not only enhances aesthetic appeal but also promotes sustainability by

encouraging the use of heirlooms and found treasures, making every space a reflection of its inhabitants.

Amped Up Earth Tones

We watched the rise of brown in 2024, replacing the stark white and drab grey interiors of the 2010s. I'm loving using

more muted hues—such as terracotta, ochre, olive green, and soft browns— to create a grounding atmosphere that

enhances comfort and tranquility within the home. Earth tones not only promote a soothing aesthetic but also work

beautifully with a variety of materials, from natural wood to stone and textiles.

Details Details Details

The emphasis on special details—particularly in lighting, hardware, and architectural elements—continues this year as

we are all embracing a more individualistic approach to design. Builder grade is OUT! Unique lighting fixtures, such as sculptural

sconceesor handcrafted pendant lights, not only illuminate but also add artistic flair. Similarly, carefully chosen hardware—think

artisanal knobs and bespoke pulls—can transform cabinets and doors into standout features. Architectural elements like

intricate moldings, textured wall panels, and exposed beams further enrich a room's character and depth. I love the sense of

discovery these seemingly small details can bring to a space.

Modern Mediterranean

Move over Modern Farmhous - Modern Mediterranean is the new aesthetic on the block, blending the timeless

charm of Mediterranean aesthetics with contemporary sensibilities. This trend emphasizes airy spaces filled with natural

light, featuring a harmonious mix of earthy tones, vibrant splashes of color, and organic textures. Key elements include rustic

wooden beams, textured plaster walls, and artisanal ceramics, all infused with a sense of relaxed elegance. The use of

indoor-outdoor living spaces, lush greenery, and coastal-inspired decor brings a refreshing and breezy vibe to homes, making

them feel both inviting and sophisticated.
